As Alex watched Delos drive away and walked into the house, he felt himself sinking into a depression. He could feel his mood darkening, his spirit faltering, and depression descending. As he entered the house, he hoped he’d be able to simply retreat to his room without having to talk to his mother. His wish was not fulfilled.

“Hello, Alex, honey.” She greeted him in a cheerful voice, and it rankled him.

“Hi,” he grunted flatly. It was difficult for him to face her now, but he’d learned over time it would be better not to blow her off.

“How was your day? You weren’t gone very long. Where’s Delos? I thought she’d be here for dinner.”

“It was just another day. We walked around the park, ate, and talked. Then we drove home. She just dropped me off; I guess she had somewhere to be.”

“It didn’t seem like that earlier this morning. Anyway, I suppose that’s your business. I’m glad you’re taking an interest in her. You’d be a lovely couple.”

“MOM! STOP!”

“I know. I won’t bother you about it. I was just saying...”

“Whatever. Just leave me alone.”

“Yes, dear. Oh, your father called. He may not be able to make it tomorrow. He has to go on a business trip. He’ll try to make it, but he may not be able to get here depending on what time his flight leaves. He said he’d call and let us know either way.”

“I don’t want to see him anyway. It might turn into a good day for that reason alone.”

“Don’t start in again with that, young man. Dinner will be early tonight, or if you don’t want to join me, you just can fix your own when you’re hungry. I’m leaving a little after six for my book club and won’t be back until close to midnight.”

“If you’re cooking, I’ll probably eat with you. If not, don’t worry about me. I’ll forage for food later. I’m going to my room.” With that, Alex made his escape, stormed up to his room, and flopped down onto his bed, kicking his Vans into the wall before he lay prone.

As he lay there, he thought more and more about his day and his interactions with Delos. The stress of the situation was irritating him and giving an upset stomach. Why were people so complicated? Why didn’t anyone understand him? He wanted to cry but he couldn’t, and he didn’t think it would help anyway. His mobile phone rang, but he didn’t answer it, not even caring who it was. He just let it go to voicemail without looking to see who had called. He eventually dozed off, and when he awakened it was nearly six o’clock -- he was still upset and his mood still sour. He would have expected that to kill his appetite, but it hadn’t. Thinking about food made him even hungrier, a state that wasn’t unusual for any teen.

He trudged down stairs to see if his mother had left any food, but the house was empty: his mother had gone, apparently without cooking and without waking him. He opened the refrigerator and looked to see what might be edible, but there wasn’t anything that motivated him. He looked in the pantry, but there wasn’t much interesting there either. He decided he’d make some Kraft Dinner, because it was easy, tasted good, and didn’t call for any cooking skills.

He got the water started, got some hot dogs out of the freezer, and got them cooking in the boiling water. He removed the hot dogs and put the macaroni in the same water. While the macaroni was cooking, he diced the frankfurters, and as soon as the Kraft Dinner was almost done, threw them in the pot as the sauce was starting to gel. Twelve minutes after he had begun, Alex’s dinner was ready to eat.

He sat down, grabbing a current issue of Mac Addict to read while he ate. He gobbled the food down quickly. While it certainly wasn’t fine dining, to Alex it bordered on ambrosia: his ultimate comfort food. It took him even less time to eat than it did to cook, and the whole pot was devoured. He hadn’t reached the end of the magazine before the food ran out, and rather than marking his place, just finished reading it instead.

It was early, but he was tired despite his earlier nap. Sometimes mental exhaustion did that to him. He decided to watch some television until it was late enough to actually go to sleep. He went upstairs, and took off all of his clothes except his underwear, lay down on his bead, and turned on the television and began surfing through the channels until settling on a rerun of Star Trek: The Next Generation. That didn’t last long as was having trouble concentrating, though, with his thoughts turning back to Delos repeatedly. He knew he should call to try to resolve the confusion about the day’s events further, but he wasn’t mentally prepared for that challenge.

He dozed, falling in and out of consciousness. He heard his mobile phone ring and reflexively grabbed it without looking at the screen to see who was calling. “Yeah?”

“Hi. It’s me, Alex. Are you busy?” Delos asked cautiously.

“Not really, just watching some TV.”

“You alone?”

“Yeah. Mom’s gone until around midnight.”

“Can I come over? I think we need to talk. I shouldn’t have run off like that but I was freaking out.”

“Sure, come over,” said Alex, a bit relieved that it might not be as bad as he had been imagining, yet apprehensive about the discussion to come.

“Okay. I’m already here.”

“What do you mean you’re already here?”

“I’ve been sitting outside your house for twenty minutes wondering if I should knock on the door or not.”

“Go ahead and knock then. I’ll answer,” replied Alex, hanging up the line suddenly, not waiting for her reply.

Shit! thought Alex in a panic. He grabbed a pair of sweatpants and threw them on because it was all that was nearby, and ran downstairs shirtless to answer the door. He reached it, and pulled it open. “Come on in, Delos.”

“Thanks,” said Delos eyeing Alex’s shirtless body with barely cloaked interest, her blood rushing to her face. She hoped desperately Alex wouldn’t notice. She forced her eyes from his chest up to his face to meet his oddly wild gaze.

Alex knew he needed to calm down. He’d been upset, thinking he’d lost Delos, without knowing why. Now, here she was, so perhaps he could at least find out what was troubling her, and maybe fix it. He forced himself to breathe slowly and deeply and felt his heart rate slow down. “So, where do you want to talk? That’s why you’re here after all.”

“Let’s go to your room.”

“Sure.” They went upstairs to Alex’s room, shutting the door behind him out of habit. He wasn’t sure where he should sit, but then thought he should do what he would usually do, so he just lay down on his bed. He expected Delos to do what she usually did and sit in the chair at his computer desk, but she sat down on the foot of the bed and kicked off her shoes. Then she shocked him by wriggling up the bed and lying down next to him. This was very out of character for Delos, and Alex didn’t know what to think or say, so he froze in place.

Delos lay still for a moment, gathering her courage. Finally she spoke. “Sorry about the park. I know I was acting weird.”

“Yeah, I need to know why. That was so not like you. And then when we got home, you just drove off like that. I didn’t know what to think, and I’ve been depressed trying to figure out what happened all afternoon.”

“It’s hard for me to explain,” said Delos after a long pause.

“Well, maybe you could try.”

She didn’t answer verbally, instead rolling onto her side, bringing her hands up to each side of his face, and kissing him full on the lips, parting her lips gently and invitingly.

Alex was stunned, but his instincts kicked in, and he joined in the kiss enthusiastically and unquestioningly like most teenagers would do. He had no idea where this was coming from, or where it was going, but once their lips met, his mind didn’t seem to be running his body any longer. He was enjoying himself as the seconds ticked by, and the kissing grew more fervent. His body began responding, and soon Delos had wrapped her arms around him, pulling his body more strongly into hers. He responded in kind, his hormones completely taking over and his brain finally shutting down and going into auto-pilot.

He wasn’t sure what this was about, but right now, he didn’t care. He knew, this wasn’t the time to analyze the situation. For whatever reason Delos was running the show, and he hadn’t the willpower to stop it. He broke the kiss with an audible gasp as he felt Delos’ hand slip inside his pants and then his underwear, gripping his turgid member, and giving a gentle tug. He had no intention of speaking; at that moment, he wasn’t capable of it, but he did let out an impassioned groan as her hand started moving again. Their sounds were quickly stifled as her mouth enveloped his again.

Her hand began moving more forcefully and the excitement of the moment began to take hold. His hands began roving over her back, trying to find something to touch, to play with. Soon, she had removed her hand from his engorged member, and was trying to pull his sweatpants down. He didn’t resist even though things were going far too fast for him. His only response was to lift himself off the bed slightly to make her efforts easier.

Second later he was naked before her for the second time today, but this time the situation was far different. Delos broke their kiss as her hand found his stiff penis again. Alex was too overloaded with emotions to speak as Delos moved her hand, touching him first on his member, then gently all over his body. He wanted to open his eyes, but he was enjoying the moment far too much to do anything but experience it. She tugged at his member again and he thought he’d pass out from pleasure.

Alex felt a sudden wetness in his nether regions and feelings he never knew existed washed over him; he knew what the feeling must be, but he had to look anyway. He peeked and saw Delos bobbing away before he closed his eyes and slid back into his blissfully euphoric state. His hands moved seemingly with a will of their own till they rested gently on the back of her head. Once there, they stroked her gently as a form of encouragement. Alex softly groaned, sighed, and grunted, and was surprised to suddenly realize he was hearing similar sounds coming from Delos.

His mind was racing all over, thousands of thoughts, memories, dreams, and hopes intermingling as the pressure built. Alex thought he should warn Delos about the impending explosion, but it came so fast it surprised him. She didn’t stop until he was spent. A sigh of deep satisfaction welled up from within and emerged out of his mouth.

She leaned forward and kissed him again, and even in his momentary lethargy he was able to respond and kiss her back. He noticed a new taste, and almost instantly realized what it was. He suspected that the thought should have repulsed him, but it didn’t. He was certain he should say something, and soon, but his mind was still jumbled from this new and overwhelmingly enjoyable experience.

“Damn, Nicky, where did you learn to do that? It was fantastic!”

“What did you say?” Delos suddenly sat upright in the bed.

Alex deflated immediately. He realized, in horror, what he had said. “I’m sorry, Delos. I wasn’t thinking. You were so wonderful, Delos, I couldn’t even think properly. It just slipped out. I’m sorry. I don’t have any idea where that came from.”

“I do. I guess that answers everything. Goodbye, Alex,” said Delos as she began to cry. She grabbed her shoes and ran out.

Alex, being at a disadvantage since he was naked, had to pull some pants on before running after her. But it was too late; she had run out the front door, not even shutting it behind her. She was in her car, as Alex, wearing nothing but sweatpants chased after her. “Wait! Stop! Please!” but Delos was gone. Alex went back inside with so many mixed emotions he didn’t know what to do
